The Faculty of Political Science "Roberto Ruffilli" provides courses in International Relations, Mass Media, Criminology, Healthcare Social studies. It has been evaluated the best Faculty of Political Science in Italy (CENSIS, 2007). Located in the centre of the city of Forlì, it is part of a campus established by the University of Bologna in 1989, which also includes the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Modern Languages for Interpreters and Translators, and the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
The campus has more than 8,000 students, which provides for an ideal equilibrium with the city's population (114,000) and the facilities available.
The Master of Arts MIREES, taught entirely in English, is based on the collaboration and joint responsibility of the European Partner Universities recognizing the diploma and, in Italy, of the Faculty of Political Science "Roberto Ruffilli", and the "Europe and the Balkans International Network" (EBIN), coordinated by the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica (IECOB).
Several student societies organise events, parties, festivals and concerts in cooperation with the University of Bologna throughout the whole academic year.
The "Europe and the Balkans International Network" (EBIN) was established by 12 scholars from four countries (Italy, United Kingdom, Greece, and Denmark) in 1993, thanks to the financial support of the European Commission (Human Capital and Mobility Programme) to the University of Bologna. Since then, the Network has greatly expanded and currently includes over 250 scholars and experts from 36 European countries, the United States, Canada, Egypt, South Africa, India, Japan, and Australia. The Network has a flexible structure and is coordinated by the Istituto per l'Europa Centro-Orientale e Balcanica (IECOB), located in Forlì, with headquarters provided by the University of Bologna at Forlì. Aiming at developing research and training in the fields of Politics, Economics, Law, History, Social Sciences, Languages and Culture, and Environmental protection, it relies on the relations established with the Central European Initiative, UniAdrion, the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, the Italian Foreign Trade Institute, the Italian Diplomatic Institute, the Italian Association of Slavists, the Association for the Studies of Nationalities, the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, and various international organizations, such as UNESCO and the World Bank.
faculty: MIREES is a programme taught in English with a faculty of prominent scholars of international repute. Students will be encouraged to meet different course requirements, absorb differentiated perspectives from a plurality of points of view, be strongly motivated to acknowledge differences, to understand "otherness", to make insightful comparisons, and they will be expected to learn to deal concretely with their own future area of expertise
experience: MIREES offers a two-year language skills programme which will take place partly in Italy and partly in the Partner Universities of Ljubljana, Vytautas Magnus University at Kaunas, and Corvinus University of Budapest, and Saint Petersburg State University during the 6-month mobility period in the second year of the Programme
methodology: The MIREES programme offers curricula in Economics, International Relations and Politics, History, Anthropology and Cultural Studies focused on East-Central Europe and the Balkans. Students, while deepening their knowledge of the field of study of their choice, are expected to develop area skills and gain greater understanding of these by placing them in a wider context in order to acquire sensitivity to the interdisciplinary impact on decision-making processes.
education: MIRESS combines an academic approach with professional training, forging potential insightful consultants, analysts, and managers as Area Experts for international agencies, public administrations, private and public companies, and NGOs, while also offering a solid basis for further academic studies at the PhD level.
Mirees
added value: Students with a BA background in Economics, Law, Political Science, International Relations, History, Agricultural studies, and Cultural studies at large will get from MIREES an in-depth knowledge of Post-socialist Countries in transition, new EU member States (and their role in Europe after the Enlargements of 2004 and 2007), and East-European Neighbour Countries. In this sense, MIREES is an innovative postgraduate programme, unique in Italy and Europe.
